Why Make a transgender manga?
Often in anime and manga we encounter gender bending elements, but more often than not the characters in question have kooky and often magical reasons for their gender bending behavior. It was important for me to create a manga studio that dealt openly with issues of gender identity and specifically the trials and tribulations facing transgender women, or commonly, t-girls. CHOTIC KISS is the first manga put out by MKT Productions and has been touring the New England anime convention circuit since 2004. MKT Productions has also been a guest artist at Portcon as well as Another Anime Con. Our studio hopes to debut more transgender titles in the future as well.
What is a t-girl?
A t-girl is a common term for a transgendered woman. This is someone who was born male, but has the mind of someone who is physically and emotionally female. The act of changing genders is often referred to as their 'transition'. Transitions have many stages, both emotional and phjysical, and just how far a t-girl wants to take their transition is an extremely personal and individual choice. Some t-girls choose to seek out sexual reassignement surgery, a procedure that changes their male parts to female ones. There are also other procedures, such as breast augmentation and facial feminization, that can help t-girls live their lives as women. Often after recieveing some or all of these operations, a t-girl is referred to as 'post-op', as is Sydney from the comic. The t-girls in CHAOTIC KISS all represent the various stages of transition, as we wanted to create characters that all t-girls could relate to.

What's the difference between crossdressers and t-girls?
T-girls and crossdressers are often thought to be one in the same, and though sometimes t-girls begin their transitions as crossdressers, the two are generally not one in the same. Crossdressers are men who enjoy exploring the feminine side of their personalities for fun or self expression, and very few crossdressers take hormones or seek surgery to change their gender. T-girls often have a condition known as gender dysphoria, which is the condition in which their bodies do not match their gender identities. Crossdressers retain their male gender identity, where as t-girls are living their lives as women because they arent comfortable with their male gender.
Gender Identity and Sexual Orientation:
Gender identity to whether a person feels as though they are male or female. There are some people who feel as though they have the qualities of both genders(androgenous) and they identify as genderqueer.Gender identity is mainly a mental and emotional ideal of how a person sees themselves. When gender identity differs from one's birth gender, sometimes this person will become transgendered. Sexual orientation refers to which gender a person is sexually attracted to. In the case of t-girls, there is a wide variance in their sexual orientations. Many of them continue to be attracted to women, while there are also many who wish to date men. Some date both men and women or even other t-girls. The key thing to rmemeber is that a t-girl wishes to be seen and treated like a woman in whatever relationship that they choose.
